Our History: 100 Years of Swiss Precision Gearboxes
Our history is not a nostalgic look back, but the foundation of how we work today.
Johan Sebastian Kienast founded Kienast & Co, ACBAR Company Zurich, to develop, manufacture, and distribute a novel gearbox system. The designation of the gearbox: ACBAR Eccentric Gearbox
Relocation to Lachen / Altendorf (SZ) – The move to Altendorf marks an important step in the company's history.
Engineer Erwin J. Kaufmann founded AKIM AG, an engineering office for drive technology. The dual-disc gearbox is created – soon followed by other custom constructions for various applications.
As part of a succession solution, AKIM AG acquires ACBAR and relocates its headquarters to Lachen. AKIM AG now has a powerful production facility, highly qualified employees, and a well-established gearbox program. New application and sales areas are opened up with the dual-disc eccentric gearboxes.
A completely new gearbox series with backlash adjustment for servo applications is developed. The series becomes very successful and soon forms an important pillar of the company.
Based on the experience with the 2S-R84 series, the 2S-R90 series is developed. It meets customer needs and the requirements of modern drive technology.
The family of Erwin J. Kaufmann takes over 100% of the shares and becomes the sole owner of AKIM AG.
Erwin J. Kaufmann hands over sole responsibility for management to his son Thomas Kaufmann.
At the end of 2025, AKIM AG was acquired by the ODT Group, allowing it to leverage various synergies of the Group.
